Arrival and Departures for the Immerse Summer School Programme in Cambridge

Arrival day at the summer programme is always a Sunday with departures being the following Saturday. Students are welcome to arrive at their designated college from 13:30. The first day involves a range of welcome activities to help participants familiarise themselves with their new surroundings and fellow students. These include a tour of their historic Cambridge college, a welcome talk from the onsite Programme Director, as well as some icebreaker activities in the evening which are a great way for students to get to know each other.

Departure day is always the final Saturday of the programme. Participants are required by the college to vacate their rooms by 10am on the Saturday and we advise participants to depart before 3pm. The Immerse team will be on site until 6pm to supervise any participants who may need to leave Cambridge later than the suggested time. Transfers to London Heathrow are available and are staggered throughout the day to cater for differing flight times.

International Arrivals

Immerse Education welcomes students from all around the world each year. Many of our students arrive via international flights. For our programmes in prestigious colleges of Cambridge University, Cambridge is well connected and can be easily accessed from airports throughout the UK. We have provided the following recommendations for connecting transport to Cambridge from airports across the UK.

Travelling alone to the United Kingdom?

If you’re an international participant planning on travelling to the United Kingdom for our programmes, we can connect you with other participants from the same country. You’ll be able to connect beforehand and even arrange to travel together, coordinating flights, if you’d like!

The nearest airport to Cambridge is Stansted (35km), however London Heathrow is easily accessible from many international locations and is a popular choice amongst our students.  We have provided a list of options for your connecting transport to Cambridge below.

If you are arriving at  London Heathrow Airport

We offer a shared pickup transfer from London Heathrow Airport to Cambridge on arrivals day. It’s a safe, easy and secure way to get to Cambridge. The cost per transfer is £45, this service can be booked after enrolment. These transfers run throughout the day to cater for different flight times. The available transfer times on arrivals day are as followed:

  • 11:00
  • 13:30
  • 16:00
  • 19:30
  • 21:00

When choosing your pickup time, please remember that it takes approximately 1.5 hours to process through immigration and luggage pick-up after touchdown, and time to travel to the central meeting point.

If you are arriving at  London Stansted Airport

There is a direct train from London Stansted Airport to Cambridge train station, with a journey time of approximately 40 minutes. Alternatively, National Express coach services are also available. Alternatively, we are able to assist you in arranging a private taxi.

If you are arriving  at London Gatwick Airport

National Express coach services are available from London Gatwick Airport to Cambridge and take approximately 2-3 hours. Alternatively, we are able to assist you in arranging a private taxi.

If you are arriving at  London Luton Airport

National Express coach services are available from London Luton Airport to Cambridge and take approximately 1.5-2 hours. Alternatively, we are able to assist you in arranging a private taxi.

If you are arriving at another airport or arriving in the UK after 8:00pm

For participants arriving at other airports in the UK or arriving in the UK after 8:00pm, you might wish to arrange a private taxi transfer. For more information see below. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Those travelling from Europe may also choose to travel via Eurostar, arriving at St Pancras International. From here a train can be taken to Cambridge via a transfer at London King’s Cross. If you wish to book or find out more about travelling to London on the Eurostar, please visit the official Eurostar website.

Domestic arrivals

Cambridge is well served with transport links for those arriving to Cambridge from within the UK. There are many options available for arrival.

Parking in central Cambridge is very limited, though parking spaces are available. We would advise one of the city centre car parks as there is no parking available on the street immediately outside of any of the summer programme colleges. More information can be found on the Cambridge City Council Website.

There are direct connections to Cambridge railway station from both London Liverpool Street and London King’s Cross mainline stations. From here , we would advise taking a licensed taxi (available immediately outside the station) to the college. Alternatively, the walk takes approximately 30 minutes. More information about trains to Cambridge can be found on the National Rail website.

Those travelling from Europe may also choose to travel via Eurostar, arriving at St Pancras International. From here a train can be taken to Cambridge via a transfer at London King’s Cross. National Express long distance coach services terminate at Parkside, on the Northern side of Parkers Piece. Sidney Sussex and Christ’s are 5 minutes walk from the terminal and St Catharine’s is only 10 minutes walk from the terminal. Arrival and Departures for the Immerse Summer School at Royal Hospital School

Arrival day at Tech Immerse is always a Sunday with departures on following Saturday. Students are welcome to arrive at the school from 14:00. The first day involves a range of welcome activities to help participants familiarise themselves with their new surroundings and fellow students. These include a tour of the school and boarding house, a welcome talk from the onsite programme manager, as well as some icebreaker activities in the evening, which are a great way for students to get to know each other.

Departure day is always the final Saturday of the programme. Participants are required by the school to vacate their rooms before breakfast on the Saturday, and we advise participants to depart before 15:00. The Tech Immerse team will be on site until 18:00 to supervise any participants who may need to leave later than the suggested time. Private transfers to London Stansted, London Luton, London Gatwick and London Heathrow can be arranged to cater for differing flight times.

The fee for Tech Immerse is not inclusive of travel to Royal Hospital School. There are several transport options available, including arriving plane, rail or car. Please read below for useful information about getting to Royal Hospital School.  Please contact us if you need assistance planning your journey once you have secured your child’s place on the programme.

International Arrivals

Tech Immerse welcomes students from all around the world. Many of our students arrive via international flights. Please advise us after enrolment, whether you would like assistance booking a private transfer from the airport to Royal Hospital School.

Stansted Airport (77km): 1hour 30 mins

Luton Airport (160km): 2hr 20mins

Gatwick Airport (165km): 2hr 30mins

Heathrow Airport (170km): 2hr 30mins

Those travelling from Europe may also choose to travel via Eurostar and arrive at St Pancras International.

From here national rail services can be used to travel to London Liverpool Street station where a transfer is required to continue to Ipswich or Manningtree mainline train stations. Domestic arrivals

For those travelling from within the UK, there are several ways to reach Royal Hospital School.

Address: Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP9 2RX

The Royal Hospital School is located on the B1080 between the villages of Stutton and Holbrook.

From the A14 take the exit signposted A137 towards Ipswich. At the roundabout you will see a sign to the Royal Hospital School which will direct you under the Orwell Bridge on the B1456 from which take a right on to the B1080 through the village of Holbrook and onwards to the School.

From the A12 take the exit for the B1070 towards East Bergholt and continue towards Manningtree where a sign to the Royal Hospital School will direct you from the roundabout on the A137 towards Ipswich. From the A137 turn right towards Stutton, passing through the village and onwards to the School.

There are direct connections to Ipswich and Manningtree railway stations from London Liverpool Street Station. More information about trains can be found on the National Rail website [add link]. From here, we would advise taking a licensed taxi (available immediately outside the station) to the school, or book in advance with one of the following reputable companies.
