One need only consider smartphone operating systems like IOS or Android, the emergence of cryptocurrency, or telecommunications that allow us to see friends sometimes thousands of miles away to see how it plays a vital role in our everyday life.

That’s why participants who choose to enrol on our computer science programme are given the chance to explore a variety of computer science topics in an interesting and engaging way. On this two-week residential programme, our teachers will work closely with participants to introduce them to the fascinating world of computer science, giving them and in-depth understanding and allowing them to develop real practical skills.

This content ranges from delving into topics such as cyber security and cryptocurrency, to developing knowledge of coding languages. On this two-week residential programme, our tutors will work closely with participants to introduce them to the fascinating world of computer science, giving them an in-depth understanding and allowing them to develop a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills for the future.

Specifically, participants might look at cyber security, learn about decrypting encrypted messages, create and analyse small programs for security, develop critical thinking skills, learn about blockchain and gain insight into the different coding languages used today.
Participants will then focus on machine learning, using Python and TensorFlow to create a working contextual chatbot.

Course Outcomes

The computer science programme is broken into three sections, each with its own aim. In the first section, participants will explore historical and recent developments in computer science, look at the various applications and develop knowledge of some useful coding languages.

In the second half of the course, students will move onto machine learning with the aim of being able to create a chatbot.

Finally, students will put their skills to use by creating a chatbot assistant for a purpose of their groups choosing. They will work with participants from other programmes to see how computer science overlaps with other fields and to gain an insight into these areas.

Participants on this course will receive personalised feedback from their teachers about their performance, the material covered, and even a list of individualised suggestions for further study.

Course Outcomes

The computer science programme is comprised of three distinct but related sections. In the first section, participants will explore historical and recent developments in computer science, review the various applications and develop knowledge of some useful coding languages.

In the second half of the course, students will move onto machine learning and understanding the processes behind creating a chatbot.

Finally, participants will have the opportunity to gain real-life coding experience, putting their newly developed skills to use by creating a chatbot assistant for the purpose of their group’s choosing. They will work with participants from other programmes to see how computer science overlaps with other fields and to gain an insight into these areas.

Students in this course will receive personalised feedback from their teachers about their performance, the material covered, and even a list of individualised suggestions for further study.

The Tech Immerse schedule is packed with a wide range of unique academic and extracurricular activities.

Participants start off the day with breakfast in the main school dining hall, with a variety of continental choices available. This is followed by the first academic session of the day, which takes place in an interactive seminar format with no more than 15 students per class.

Participants are then provided a two course lunch with vegetarian options, a salad bar and drinks.  Following lunch, academic sessions continue in the format of small tutorial groups. After all the core academic sessions are finished, students are treated to one of a wide range of tech-based workshops or sports activities. A three course dinner in the dining hall is then followed by an evening social event to help participants wind down and socialise after a packed day.

The final evening of the programme celebrates the achievements of each participant in a graduation ceremony that's followed by celebration. Throughout the Tech Immerse summer programme, our teachers will monitor student engagement with the topics that they have been taught. Once the programme has finished, the teacher will write a Participant Assessment...MORE

...that will evaluate how the participant responded to the materials they were introduced to, what progress they made during the sessions, and offer recommendations on how to most effectively advance participant's understanding and interest in the topics that have been explored.
