History is a powerful subject that does not just ask: ‘what happened?’ but rather, ‘why did it happen?’ and on our History summer programme, participants will have the chance to investigate this important question. This programme will give participants an exciting and unparalleled insight into what studying history at university would entail. The topics explored will provide a taste of the key academic concepts in contemporary historical study, together with encouraging them to think critically and develop informed, logical arguments – an essential skill set for studying the subject at a higher level.
Instead it concerns itself with analysis of political, cultural, social and economic structures of the past. The question is ‘why did it happen?’, not ‘what happened?’. The Immerse Education History course introduces students to this style of thinking as well as the main theoretical challenges of studying history
