“We study the past to understand the present; we understand the present to guide the future.” As a society it is important that we learn from our mistakes if we don’t want to repeat them. However, we shouldn’t simply study facts and dates from key moments. Instead we should analyse the political, cultural, and social structures of the past. History is a powerful subject that does not just ask: ‘what happened?’ but rather, ‘why did it happen?’ and on our History summer programme, participants will have the chance to investigate this important question.
Instead it concerns itself with analysis of political, cultural, social and economic structures of the past. The question is ‘why did it happen?’, not ‘what happened?’. The Immerse Education History course introduces students to this style of thinking as well as the main theoretical challenges of studying history
