Students design and complete an independent research project, developing essential skills in research, academic writing, referencing, and argumentation — culminating in a final written report. Perfect for university applications!

Choice of 1:1 or group lessons

Students have the choice between individual tutorials with their subject tutor, offering personalised feedback and mentorship, or learning in a group setting amongst like-minded peers.

Certificate of achievement and accreditation

Upon completion, students receive a certificate recognising their academic work — ideal for university applications, portfolios, or CVs. For accredited courses, they also receive a copy of their qualification recognised by universities around the world.

Publication in Research Journal

For Publication Research Programme students, they will finish their programme with 4 hours of coaching to support them in publishing their work in an internationally recognised high school journal.

George is a lecturer in Medieval English at Pembroke College, Oxford. He also teaches at Worcester College and University College, Oxford. He holds a BA in English Literature from Durham University, an MSt in English (650-1550) from Mansfield College, Oxford, and a DPhil (PhD) from St Anne’s College, Oxford.

Develop a pre-university research project

Our English literature summer school gives students the chance to explore literature in depth with expert guidance. This programme combines personal tutoring with the completion of a detailed research project, helping students think critically about texts. Within English literature, participants choose a topic that interests them - whether it’s a particular author, theme, or literary technique - and explore it through independent research. Along the way, they develop their analytical and writing skills. Outstanding projects may be selected for presentation at the Immerse Online Symposium.

A learning experience beyond the classroom

Studying English literature online is an opportunity to go beyond the school curriculum. With personalised mentoring, students delve into texts from new angles - examining how literature reflects and shapes history, culture, and contemporary issues. This deeper, more expansive approach encourages critical thinking and a richer appreciation of the written word.

Top-performing students may also be awarded a personal Letter of Recommendation from their tutor - a prestigious endorsement to further strengthen future applications.

Parents FAQ

What if my child needs medical attention?

We have strict safeguarding policies and procedures that cover all cases of students needed medical attention to ensure student safety and wellbeing. If a child requires medical attention, all of our staff are first-aid trained are able to handle minor injuries or illnesses on-site, while more serious cases are referred to the nearest hospital or GP practice. For more information, or if you are unsure about whether we can accommodate your requirements, please contact us at enquiries@immerse.education.

How is my child's safety ensured during the programme?

All of our team members pass an Enhanced DBS check (the UK’s criminal record check) and undergo safeguarding and welfare training. Our resident summer team, together with college personnel, supervise each of our sites 24/7. The colleges and the cities themselves are very safe environments.

Are meals provided, and do you cater to dietary requirements?

Meals are provided for students during the programme, with specifics depending on the student’s age group and exact location or college. Typically, students aged 13-15 receive breakfast, lunch, and dinner either on-site or near their accommodation, while students aged 16-18 are provided with breakfast and dinner, with various lunch options available near their accommodation or classrooms.Our host venues accommodate all dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, halal, gluten-free, and allergy-related needs. If your child has specific allergies or dietary restrictions, please include these details in the post-enrolment form so we can make the necessary arrangements.

Is travel to and from the programme’s location included?

Students will be responsible for getting to and from the city where the programme is located. However, travel to and from excursions, tours and activities attended during the programme’s duration will be fully arranged by Immerse Education and are included in the fees.
