This immersive Cambridge summer program introduces 15–18-year-olds to key engineering fields through hands-on challenges, expert mentorship, and industry visits to cutting-edge labs and engineering firms shaping the future.

Ideal age range
For ages 15-18, giving students real industry exposure before university.
Small class sizes
Classes of 8-12 students, so every student learns directly from their tutor.

Industry Visits
Students in Cambridge will explore the industry through expert-led workshops, company visits, and real-world insights.

The Bradfield Centre
At the heart of Cambridge Science Park, participants stepped into one of the UK’s leading knowledge hubs, exploring startups and scale-ups among 150 acres and 1.7 million square feet of high-tech laboratory space.

Walthamstow Pumphouse Museum
Built in 1877, Walthamstow Pumphouse Museum gave participants hands-on insight into engineering heritage, as they toured historic engine rooms with working engineers, ran the engine themselves, and asked career-focused questions about the machinery and industry.

3D Print UK
3D Print UK is a leading facility dedicated to the development and application of 3D printing technologies. This visit highlighted advanced manufacturing solutions across various industries, from automotive and aerospace to healthcare and consumer products.

In these two-hour sessions, Expert Tutors from the industry guide participants through hands-on tasks that provide practical, real-world experience. Each session is designed to equip students with essential skills directly relevant to their chosen field, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge to practical tasks and gain confidence in industry-related skills.
These sessions cover vital areas such as career exploration, job search strategies, evaluating potential employers, crafting future CVs, and writing impactful cover letters. Each session aims to build a comprehensive skill set that supports participants on their professional journey.
Led by Expert Tutors, these workshops provide insights into various career paths and industry practices. Participants benefit from the experiences shared by professionals, gaining practical knowledge and understanding of the skills required in their fields of interest. These sessions are designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional application, equipping students with tools essential for future success.
Each week, participants receive one-on-one sessions with their dedicated Expert Industry Tutor. These tailored meetings are designed to provide individual feedback and career-focused support, ensuring that each student receives guidance suited to their career planning, industry interests, and personal development goals.
Throughout the programme, students engage in individual projects that allow them to apply acquired knowledge and skills to real-world scenarios and work on their future career plans. This hands-on approach fosters critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, culminating in a comprehensive project presentation to industry experts.
Industry visits offer participants firsthand exposure to their field of interest. Through visits to leading local companies and on-site guest speaker sessions, students gain invaluable insights into the industry landscape and have the opportunity to network with professionals, helping them understand potential career paths.

Dr Robail is a Postdoctoral Research Assistant at the Biomedical Image Analysis Group, University of Oxford. His research focused on biomedical image analysis, computer vision, and computational (machine-learning-based) analysis of images.

Pramit is a DPhil (PhD) participant at the Department of Engineering Science at Christ Church College at the University of Oxford, UK.

A few weeks before arrival, participants are assigned a college based on their subject and dates. If you’re attending with a friend or sibling, let us know—we’ll do our best to house you together. Students participate in formal dining experiences twice during the *subject* programme, which is a treasured custom at Cambridge. Students congregate in opulent Formal Halls with towering ceilings and chandeliers for three-course meals. The first dinner welcomes you to the summer school, while the second, following the graduation ceremony, is a fitting way to celebrate your achievements.
Celebrate Your Achievements
