Explore the curriculum
An introduction to law, exploring what it is, where it comes from, and how different legal systems work. Students will learn essential legal terminology, understand the main sources of law, and gain insight into the key branches of legal practice, before exploring areas they may want to specialise in as they progress in their legal studies.
An introduction to criminal law, exploring what makes an act a crime and how criminal liability is established. Students will examine the burden and standard of proof, and follow the criminal justice process from arrest through to sentencing, including defendants’ rights and due process.
An introduction to tort law and how it protects individuals from harm. Students will explore key principles such as negligence and the neighbourhood principle, alongside real-world liability, defamation, strict liability, and intentional torts.
An overview of how law shapes everyday agreements, property, and business. Students will learn how legally binding contracts are formed and enforced, explore property rights and common disputes, and understand how businesses are structured and where legal responsibility sits.
An introduction to courtroom evidence and legal argument. Students will explore how evidence is presented, challenged, and assessed in court, including relevance, admissibility, and hearsay, and apply legal reasoning through moots and mock trials.
Mary Adeyemo is a student researcher in law at the University of Oxford, where she examines the intersection of medicine, law, and technology, with a focus on negligence in sub-Saharan Africa. She is also a qualified lawyer in Nigeria and New York, with experience spanning tier-one law firms, international institutions, and complex cross-border disputes. Over two weeks, she guided students through the foundations of law as it operates in everyday life, combining legal theory with advocacy, debate, and real courtroom-style practice so they could explore whether law suited them, build confidence in legal reasoning, and speak clearly about complex legal issues.

Where you will be staying
St Edmund Hall, known as “Teddy Hall”, dates back to around 1226 and is one of Oxford’s most historic communities. Its small, welcoming college setting creates a close-knit environment in the heart of the city.

Participants will be based at Oxford University colleges, living and learning in the same historic surroundings as Oxford students. This unique residential experience allows you to fully immerse yourself in university life, form lasting friendships with peers from around the world, and gain authentic insight into life as an Oxford student. The experience of residing within the colleges at Oxford University is unparalleled. Each college possesses its own distinct history and architectural flair. Male and female students will have separate accommodation, and Wi-Fi is available at every college.

Founded in 1326, Oriel College sits in the centre of Oxford overlooking Radcliffe Square. With historic quads and on-site teaching spaces, students experience authentic collegiate life in one of Oxford’s most iconic locations.

Live and Learn in a Historic College
Experience life at the University of Oxford as you stay in one of its renowned colleges. A few weeks before arrival, participants will be assigned accommodation based on their chosen dates and course. If attending with a friend or sibling, let us know, and we will do our best to house you together.
Dine in Historic Halls
Twice during our *subject* summer school in Oxford, students will take part in formal dining experiences, enjoying three-course meals in the grand surroundings of an Oxford college hall. The first dinner welcomes you to the summer school, while the second, following the graduation ceremony, is a fitting way to celebrate your achievements.
Graduation in an Iconic Setting
Our *subject* summer course in Oxford concludes with a graduation ceremony in one of Oxford’s historic halls, where students are recognised for their dedication and accomplishments. With faculty, peers, and special guests in attendance, this inspiring event is followed by a final formal dinner—a memorable end to your time with us.
