Daniel Zhang
Daniel Zhang is a junior at Canyon Crest Academy in San Diego, California, with a background in cancer biology research and a long-term goal of pursuing an MD-PhD. He is the co-founder and National President of STEAMLabs International, a nonprofit that has brought hands-on STEAM education to over 1,000 students across seven states and donated science kits to schools in Ghana and Nigeria. An all-state pianist who has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, and Tokyo Opera City Hall, Daniel moves comfortably between the sciences and the arts. His essay on fairness in machine learning reflects his broader interest in how technology shapes human outcomes, and what it means to build systems that actually work for everyone.
