The Chemistry Summer School for 16-18 year olds will provide you with an exciting and unparalleled insight into university-level Chemistry. Our Chemistry programmes take place in colleges of Cambridge University, where Chemistry has been studied for over 300 years. Indeed, since 1901 – the year of the first Nobel Prizes – seventeen winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry have been either students or teachers at the university. Géraldine Baekelandt

Géraldine Baekelandt is a final year PhD student at Newnham College. She is undertaking a DPhil in Nanoscience at the Department in Engineering, on a fully funded scholarship by Medimmune, Astra Zeneca’s biological research arm. Her research specialises in therapeutic peptides related to diabetes and their nanoscale interactions with primary containers.

Géraldine has an undergraduate in Chemistry, a MSc in Nanotechnology for Regenerative Medicine, where she was working on using quantum dots for imaging and novel therapies for HCT-116 colorectal cancer cells and a MRes in Sensor Technologies. Géraldine has been teaching for many years at Cambridge University. Géraldine has a particular interest in Women in STEM, and can usually be found either in the lab or at an empowering women’s talk!

Academic programmes for students aged 13-15 years old and 16-18 years old.

Our academic summer schools are designed for students aged13-15 years old, and for students aged 16-18 years old. Whatever age you are, you will be taking part in an academically demanding(but enjoyable!) programme, living in Cambridge University colleges, and meeting other motivated students from all over the world.
