Day four of Immerse Education allowed students to continue exploring their chosen subjects in depth. In particular for the medics, this included a trip to either Addenbrooke’s hospital – the central site of the University’s clinical school – where they had the opportunity to visit the working laboratory of a Cambridge academic and extract their own DNA from liver cells. Meanwhile, others took a visit to the Whipple museum, which holds an internationally renowned collection of scientific instruments and models, dating as far back as the Middle Ages!

Heading to the River

Following a jam-packed morning of tutorials, students embarked upon, for what was many, their first experience of punting. In the safe hands of Scudamore’s expert punt chauffeurs, they were toured up and down the River Cam, with particular highlights including stunning views of many of Cambridge’s colleges such as St John’s, Trinity and King’s. In addition we also learnt more about the history of buildings such as the Wren library – which still houses original works by prominent authors such as A.A. Milne. The trip has left many students excited for the opportunity to punt themselves in the second week of the programme!

Following a dinner in Queen’s hall, participants challenged each other to games of either rounders or ultimate frisbee, serving as a warm up for tomorrow’s Sports Day, to which we look forward to with anticipation.
