Hayden recently completed a Business Management programme in Oxford with Immerse, and we asked him about his experience with us – read the full interview below:

What made you decide to take an Immerse programme?

“I decided to take an Immerse programme after finding out about its summer course through my career counselor, who shared her insights on its benefits and enrichment to my personal growth. Upon checking the subjects available in its residential programmes and reading students’ testimonials, I saw the essay competition being advertised. Motivated by former participants’ passionate experience, I was inspired to write an academic essay.”

What did you value most about your residential programme at Immerse?

“The thing I value most about my residential programme at Immerse was the seamless integration of world-class university level academic learning with traditional Oxford extracurriculars, allowing me to both grow academically and personally. Other than learning in-depth knowledge in Business Management in a dynamic classroom setting, the team-building activities were memories to last! It nurtured lasting friendship in such a short amount of time. All of us fostered strong bonds between one another, which made all of the extracurriculars really fun and memorable. I can still remember one of the best activities, punting, that brought us in the realm of typical and traditional Oxford activities. Many of us lost our balance and fell in the river, where we had a blast of laughter and fun!

I was pleasantly surprised with how well structured the overall summer course was, where all activities after my lectures were pre-prepped in advance by my mentors and college managers. From the meticulously designed curriculum to the thoughtfully planned extracurricular activities, every aspect of the programme has demonstrated a commitment to providing a comprehensive educational journey. The clear scheduling, efficient communication on Discord, and attention to detail have enabled participants to fully immerse themselves in the learning process without the distractions of uncertainty. Overall, the balanced blend of academic rigor and experiential learning has fostered a holistic growth that extends beyond the classroom. In turn, this has contributed significantly to the sense of community and shared purpose among participants, which is what Immerse stands for.”

How do you think your experience on your Immerse programme will prepare you for higher education?

“My experience on my Immerse programme will surely help me for higher education. It has undoubtedly equipped me with a range of skills that I believe will serve me well in university. The academic lecture’s emphasis on interactive learning, critical thinking, and independent research has provided me with a solid foundation for the academic challenges that await me in university. For instance, in each session, we had case study discussions and role-plays as business decision-makers, which made me think outside the box. This increased my confidence as all participants had the same passion and interest – so we were all comfortable and making mistakes was totally okay! Moreover, having individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds, it brought in interesting discussions that propelled my interest in Business Management. In summary, the lessons laid the necessary foundations for university, taught by leading world-class academics. All in all, the academic sessions nurtured a deeper understanding of the subjects, motivating me to work harder towards my goals and increasing my passion for the subject. Additionally, the opportunity to collaborate with diverse peers in fun team-building activities enriched my perspective and enhanced my interpersonal skills, leaving me better prepared for future personal challenges.”

How did your experience at Immerse support you with your university application?

“My university application starts next year. Nonetheless, I am certain that my experience at Immerse will be highly beneficial with my applications as I can use my experiences as inspiration in my personal statements.”
