As the first week of challenging tutorials comes to an end, it was great to still see the students with buzzing conversation at breakfast. The law students were set to study the law of the European Union which included a debate about how the UK and EU system interact and which should have the overall priority.
Off to King’s College Chapel
For the afternoon, the history students were taken to the Fitzwilliam Museum where they viewed many paintings; for example, those of Giovanni Battista Cima de Conegliano and Domencio Veneziano. This really enriched what they have been studying over the past few days.
After tutorials, we were able to avoid the rain by a visit to King’s College chapel. This is a phenomenal building, the real heart of Cambridge, and is a splendid example of late Gothic architecture. It has some of the finest medieval stained glass and 2015 now marks the 500 year completion of the chapel’s stonework. Before a tasty dinner of chicken, steak or pasta, some students went shopping whilst others challenged each other to a game of football on the grass area just outside of the college.
In order to relax before the busy weekend ahead, students watched ‘The Theory of Everything’ on a large projector with surround sound in our auditorium. An enjoyable cinematic experience with a very touching, informative and well-produced film. The students then proceeded to bed to recuperate before their fun-filled trips to Oxford and London.
