The final full day at Immerse Education began, in standard fashion, with a hearty breakfast. Students then bustled to the Yusuf Hamied centre for the last tutorials of the session, eager to determine the answers to their outstanding questions. Whilst most were in their usual rooms, the law students had a morning trip to the Cambridge Crown Courts, where they watched the trial of a large group of defendants: controversially, only one of the group pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge, comically undermining all of the others’ pleas. Their afternoon consisted of a visit to the Law Faculty, where they saw the lecture theatres and toured the Squire Law Library.

One Last Look
Lunch provided a last opportunity to explore the city, Colleges and popular eateries in groups. Some picked up last-minute souvenirs, whilst others snapped photos or simply enjoyed the final lunchtime with new-found friends. At the end of the afternoon tutorial, all said a final farewell to the subject tutors, before double-checking their personal timeslots for the interview and personal statement workshops. Between 15.30-18.30 students were advised, directed and challenged by Summer Mentors on their university application personal statements or in mock interviews depending on which they had chosen to focus on. Complex academic discussion with keen student participation could be heard throughout the rooms in every subject.
Time to Graduate
After the workshop sessions finished, students headed to the Upper Hall for 7pm, ‘suited and booted’ for Graduation Dinner. A three-course meal was served in Christ’s ancient dining hall, and the atmosphere was buzzing with prospect of the final night party. Afterwards, a ceremony took place in the Yusuf Hamied Centre, with certificates and a group photo being handed out to every participant, a charmingly witty speech from the Programme Manager reflecting on the two weeks and an entertaining photo slideshow. The evening’s festivities concluded in the form of a Bop (traditional Oxbridge College party) with the theme ‘Around the World’. Bunting of every national flag decorated the room, with chocolate fondue and booming dancing music being enjoyed by all until the extended curfew time of 12pm. The participants of Session 2 of Immerse Education 2014 certainly went out with a bang, and we hope it was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended! It has been an absolute pleasure for the team to mentor such inspiring students!
