I’m Kaycee, a Law student at Emmanuel College Cambridge, and currently an Immerse mentor at Corpus Christi College. Let me give you a glimpse into a typical day on an Immerse programme based in Cambridge.

My day starts with breakfast in the Corpus Christi dining hall from 8am to 9am, where the selection is impressive, ranging from cereals and yoghurts to pastries and cooked items like sausages, eggs, and bacon. My breakfast is always accompanied by a cup of tea and orange juice.

At 9am, I meet my mentor family at Old Court for registration. I check in with my group of 12 mentees, inform them about the day’s schedule, and address any questions before they head to their morning class at 9.30am.

While the participants are in class, the mentors convene to discuss and prepare for the afternoon and evening activities. Today’s evening activity is ‘Cake and Canvas’, so we check our inventory of canvases, paints, and other supplies, and make a shopping list for what’s needed. We decide on Krispy Kreme doughnuts for the ‘cake’ part, and a couple of mentors head out to shop for the supplies.

Between 11.30 and 1.30, the participants, aged 16-18, head out for lunch, often choosing the popular Cambridge market stalls, which offer a variety of cuisines. They return for their afternoon class at 1.30.

At 3.45, I gather my mentor family for the second registration of the day, and we prepare for the afternoon activity: punting. The weather is lovely, and we head down to Mill Lane. The participants split into groups of around eleven and board the punts. I join a group of girls, and we enjoy a guided punt down the river, admiring the views of colleges like Trinity College, and spotting some adorable ducks along the way.

After punting, we have dinner in the dining hall, followed by evening registration and the start of our ‘Cake and Canvas’ activity. Each participant creates their own artwork while enjoying doughnuts, making for a relaxing and creative evening as the sun sets.

By 10pm, it’s time for bed, wrapping up another exciting day of classes and activities, ready to do it all again tomorrow.
