Arrivals Day!

Today marked an exciting arrivals day at Queens College to kick off the August session of Immerse Education! The mentors enjoyed an early breakfast before breaking off to manage their individual sites and prepare for the influx of new participants. Flights touched down in Heathrow airport, after students had travelled far and wide from fifty different countries over six continents. Meanwhile trains arrived from around the UK as participants made their way to Queens to settle in and mingle with each other before the start of what is sure to be a packed two weeks of academics and fun.

Our fantastic academic programme director Ore introduced participants to the programme in welcome talks throughout the day, which outlined some of the exciting activities to be expected in the next two weeks ranging from punting to a ghost tour of Cambridge. Once everyone had settled into their rooms, the Immerse mentors hosted a great range of outdoor icebreakers, which were luckily met with enthusiasm and fabulous sunny weather after weeks of wind and rain.

The participants gathered for a delicious dinner in Queens dining hall where they had a chance to unwind and mingle after a tiring day of travelling.

This was followed by another session of icebreakers and a tower-building challenge, where mentor groups got competitive as they were pitted against each other to create the tallest and the most creative tower out of straws, tape and paper. Groups banded together to construct some interesting towers, with entries as high as 6 feet tall and others modelled after the Eiffel tower as a drag queen. The winning groups received a box of Celebrations before breaking off to relax around college and prepare for the start of a fun-packed session.
